Wang Yi answered reporters’ questions on the current situation in the Taiwan Strait

　　On October 29th, 2021, local time, while attending the G20 Summit in Rome, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi answered a reporter’s question about the recent claims of the United States and other individual countries to support Taiwan Province’s "active and meaningful participation in the United Nations system and the international community".

　　Wang Yi said that there is only one China in the world, the government of People’s Republic of China (PRC) is the sole legal government representing the whole of China, and Taiwan Province is a part of the territory of China, which has become the general consensus of the international community and the norm of international relations that all countries abide by.

　　Wang Yi emphasized that the historical and legal facts of one China cannot be challenged, and the process of 1.4 billion China people promoting the peaceful reunification of the motherland is unstoppable. Taiwan Province has no future except reunification with the mainland. Taiwan Province has no other status in international law except as a part of China.

　　Wang Yi said that in 1971, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 2758 by an overwhelming majority, and decided to restore China’s legitimate seat in the United Nations, which completely solved the problem of China’s representation in the United Nations and international institutions politically, legally and procedurally.

　　Recently, some countries, such as the United States, attempted to make a breakthrough on the Taiwan Province issue, which violated the political commitment they made when they established diplomatic relations with China, ignored the common will expressed by the vast number of Member States in resolution 2758, and undermined the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, as well as peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. They couldn’t stop the one-China principle 50 years ago, let alone succeed today in the 21st century. If you go your own way, you will pay the due price for it.
